HISD is conducting the largest whole-scale systemic reform ever attempted in the United States. Advances in technology and changes in the workplace have called for a fundamentally different public education system for over a decade. This year’s first graders graduate in 2035 and unless real transformation occurs now, they face a future workplace they are not prepared to function or excel in.
At the start of the 2023-2024 school year, HISD implemented its New Education System (NES) in 85 schools to directly target the underlying principles that have stymied public education. Over the next 24 months, HISD is working to turn around ALL underperforming schools in a district that includes 185,000 students and 11,000 teachers.
Education leaders will have the opportunity to visit New Education System campuses and engage in expert briefings to internalize what reform looks like in HISD.
